Gadiara in Howrah
This
scenic tourist spot is situated at the convergence of three well-known
rivers of Howrah- Rupnarayan, Damodar and Hooghly. All these 3 rivers
unite in Gadiara to create a vast area of water body with the cities
like Geonkhali, Haldia and Nurpur located at their banks.
All
of these towns look illuminated with twinkling lights in the evening
and this magnificent view can be enjoyed from Gadiara from the other
side of the river. It can be a perfect weekend retreat which you can
spend in gazing at the boats and enjoying the dusk on the river.
Things to do in Gadiara
Tourists
can take pleasure in scrumptious Bengali cuisines, village walks and
river cruising. Ruins of an ancient fort known as the “Mornington Fort”
constructed during the reign of Lord Clive is a must-visit spot in
Gadiara. This fort is majorly sunken in the river.
There
is also a lighthouse which is a must-see in Gadiara. Tourists can even
take a ferry ride and visit another beautiful attraction known as
“Geonkhali“located across the river. Geonkhali Water Treatment Plant is
worth mentioning at Geonkhali.

There are also a few guest houses in Gadiara which have gardens full of fresh vegetables. Tourists are permitted to choose their preferred vegetable from these gardens and get them cooked.
How to reach Gadiara from Howrah
The distance between Howrah
and Gadiara is approximately 50 Km. Tourists can take a local train
from Howrah which is leading towards Mecheda, Kharagpur, Kolaghat or
Panskura.
Thereafter, they can get down at the “Bagnan” station. From
Bagnan to one can reach Shyampur by boarding a bus. At Shyampur one can
take an auto rickshaw to arrive at Gadiara which is located at a
distance of 8 Km from Shyampur.
