Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Howrah

This is one of the most popular temples among devotees of the Hindu religion.

It is on the other side of the River Hooghly. The principal deity of this temple is Goddess Bhavatarini, another form of Goddess Kali. This temple, built in 1855, by Rani Rashmoni is world renowned. The main temple has nine spires on it. There are a dozen smaller temples around the temple compound dedicated to Lord Shiva. The devotees can take a dip in the holy waters of the River Hooghly.

Pareshnath Jain Temple in Howrah

This temple belonging to the Jain religion is a very important place of worship in Howrah. It was built in the year 1867 by Seth Badridas. Pareshnath was one of the Jain Tirthankaras. The main temple of the compound has the statue of Lord Shitalnathji in it. The architecture of the temple is magnificent with exquisite designs and stained glass windows.

Birla Mandir in Howrah

This Mandir was built by the famous Birla family. The temple is made of white marble and the architecture of the building is very beautiful. The principal deities worshipped are Radha and Krishna. This temple was designed by Nomi Bose. A lot of tourists visit this temple every day.

Kalighat Temple Howrah

Kalighat temple is another very popular pilgrimage destination among the Hindus. It is regarded as one of the Shakti Peethas. Goddess Kali is the principle deity of this temple. Thousands of devotees offer their pujas to the Goddess every day. This is the oldest temple of Goddess Kali to be worshipped even today.

Kripamayee Kali Temple in Howrah

This temple is near the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Baranagar. The principle deity is Goddess Kripamayee who is said to be a form of Goddess Kali. The temple has nine spires at its top.

Madan Mohan Jiu Temple in Howrah

This temple is situated in Samta on the banks of the Rupnarayan River. Lord Krishna is the principle deity of the temple, thus the name. The Zamindars of the Roy family who used to rule over Samta had built this temple.

Thus, Howrah has a lot of famous and important temples in and around it where tourists can pay a visit throughout the year.
