Heritage of Howrah
The main heritage spot of Howrah is the Anand Niketan Kirtishala Museum. This museum was established by the officers of Anand Niketan with the purpose of throwing a light on the cultural and historical heritage of Bengal.
The main intention of this museum is to enrich the rural people of this region. Anand Niketan Kirtishala also acts as a platform to educate the rural people who are unable to access enough educational resources. The various displays in this museum from different historical periods are evidence to the affluent past of Bengal.
Celebrations of Howrah
Howrah is an amazing blend of ample of festivals, celebrations and fairs throughout the year.- Durga Puja is the most joyous, attractive and the main festival celebrated in Howrah. Apart from this the other significant festivals that are celebrated in Howrah are- Saraswati Puja, Diwali, Kali Puja, Id, Holi(or Dol) and Naba Barsha(or Bengali New Year).
- Book fair is an annual feature of the Howrah city. This fair takes place in winters. The Howrah Book Fair of “Howrah Boi Mela” is held at the Sarat Sadan complex. Excellent crowds, book stalls stocked with books from renowned authors, seminars and exhibitions have always been a part of this famous book fair in Howrah.
- This year’s Howrah Book Fair highlight was an exhibition which focused on “Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay”, the life of the author and his works. Apart from these cultural programs are also held in this book fair every year which include- dance, music, “srutinatak” and recitation. Howrah Book Fair also boasts of “Kavi Sammelans” which highlight Urdu and Hindi poetry.
